Special Programs

Students may designate an approved special program, although special programs are not required for graduation. Students must have a C (2.00) average in the courses required for the special program. The requirements for these special programs are described below.

 

ARTS MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS
Luther offers a series of programs for students interested in the growing field of arts management. To complete one of the programs, a student is required to complete a major in one of the four areas (art, music, theatre/dance, or management) in addition to completing a special group of courses in a second area. Courses for these programs are found in the Luther College Catalog.

INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT STUDIES
For students majoring in modern languages or in accounting, economics, management, or management information systems who have a special interest in aspects of international affairs, Luther offers an opportunity to obtain certification in international management studies.

Students majoring in accounting, economics, management, or management information systems must complete a minimum of 4 courses in a single foreign language. One of these courses must be foreign language 345 (conversation and composition) and four additional credits numbered above 345. It is recommended that economics 362 (international economics) and management 360 (international business managment) be elected. It is also recommended that students take the course in "business language" of their foreign language. An oral proficiency examination is required and will entitle studetns to have a writeen evaluation of their performance upon request.

Students majoring in a language must complete the following courses from the offerings in the department of economics and business: economics 130 and 362, accounting 130 and 140, and management 360. Students are also urged to elect economics 464. These are the fundamental courses for students interested in International Management. However, those choosing this option may wish to enhance this area of concentration with appropriate course work from related fields such as political science, anthropology and history. In addition to on-campus offerings, overseas opportunities for studies and internships are available.


 

SPORTS MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
The sports management program prepares studetns for management level positions in athletics and the fitness and wellness profession. Program requirements include completion of one of the majors listed below and a special group of courses in a second area.
