A key component of Luther's business program is the internship. Students
gain valuable experience in a wide variety of professions through internship
opportunities. Most of these on-the-job learning experiences take place
during the January term and/or spring semester of a student's senior year.
Internships are also available at other times, including the summer months.
Internships vary from three to twelve weeks in length and credit varies
accordingly. Many Luther students earn wages as they learn, which can
help defray relocation expenses. The greatest benefit of the internship,
however, is an increased awareness of the business world at a time when
the experience can still be related to the formal learning process on
campus.
Examples of organizations that have hosted Luther students as interns
over the past few years include Accenture, Arthur Anderson, the FBI, KPMG
Peat Marwick, Fallon McElligott, First Bank Systems, Mayo Health Systems,
Northwester Mutual, Rockwell International, Lutheran Brotherhood, John
Deere, Martin/Williams Advertising, the Minnesota Orchestra, Banker's
Trust, and J.C. Penney.
